Hello, and welcome to Behind the Crayons — where the glue is always missing, someone is usually crying (sometimes it’s me), and the glitter has very much taken over my life.
I’m a preschool teacher. My real name is top secret, but you can call me The Teacher Behind the Crayons. I write anonymously so the focus stays where it belongs — on the work, the reflection, and the conversations that matter.
I spend my days supporting tiny humans through big feelings, learning through play, navigating friendships, and watching the invisible foundations of confidence, resilience, and self-understanding quietly take shape.
But this space isn’t just about what happens inside a classroom.
It’s about questioning what we focus on in early childhood education. Challenging the idea that development is a checklist. Making room for flexibility, individuality, and growth that doesn’t follow a straight line.
Somewhere between wiping tables and negotiating over trucks (it was never actually about the truck), we make constant professional decisions — holding theory in one hand and a very opinionated four-year-old in the other.
This is where I unpack that thinking. Where I gently challenge norms. Where I reflect on the emotional weight of caring deeply — and the joy that keeps us coming back.
Because sometimes the real work isn’t changing children. It’s changing how we see them.
If you’ve ever felt alone in your work, your parenting, or your overthinking mind, I hope you find something here that helps you feel seen — and maybe think a little differently, too.
Take your time. You’re welcome here.
