The Teacher Behind The Crayons
Hello, and welcome to Behind the Crayons — where the glue is always missing, someone is always crying (sometimes it’s me), and the glitter has taken over my life.
I’m a preschool teacher. My real name is top-secret, but you can call me “The Teacher Behind the Crayons.”
I spend my days trying to convince tiny humans not to lick each other, identifying mystery stains, and pretending I’m not deeply emotionally affected by a four-year-old calling me their “best grown-up friend.”
But this blog isn’t just about my classroom. It’s about the layers behind it — the emotional weight of caregiving, the quiet victories, the days that drain you, and the moments that make your heart feel too full.
I created this space to:
- Share stories from the classroom (the beautiful, the funny, the frustrating)
- Talk about child development in ways parents and fellow educators can relate to
- Reflect honestly on mental health, burnout, and identity — because teachers are human too
- Shine a light on the not-so-picture-perfect side of the industry, where quantity sometimes overshadows quality, and where children (and teachers) deserve better
I’m writing anonymously so I can speak freely — not to hide, but to be honest. If you’ve ever felt alone in your work, your parenting, or your overthinking mind… I hope you find something here that helps you feel seen.
Thanks for stopping by. I’m glad you’re here.
💬 I’d love to hear from you! Have you had a “pause and breathe” moment with your little learners? Or maybe a funny story about a fire drill and a glitter explosion? Share your thoughts, questions, or classroom wins in the comments below—let’s keep the conversation going.
